Amidst accusations of “unprovoked” war in Ukraine and calls for Putins assassination, it is worthwhile to examine past and ongoing lethal weapons aid to Ukriane by the US and the NATO Allies after the US staged coup in early 2014 in Kyiv, used in killing and bombing thousands of civilians and resistance forces in the Donetsk and Luhansk people republics over last 8 years. Past and current policy decisions, lethal weapons deliveries secure escalation against Russia, and losses among the Ukrainian civilian population with strong potential spillover into the EU and the US, the NATO involvement . There are reports of as many as 7000 foreign students and workers from India, Africa, China being shot, denied safe exit and effectively held as hostages by the Ukrainian military and paramilitary in Lviv, Kharkiv, Kherson, Chernihiv and Kyiv.
The conflict Spillover to the EU and neighboring Ukriane countries is extremely high even near term spring 2022 but expected to extend next few years. Threats to Putins life and supplying lethal aid are extremely destabilizing, serve as unifying trigger for Russia and lead to global nuclear war. In the meantime, the situation over Ukraine is expected to deteriorate with higher losses and destruction near term due to provided western lethal aid used in Kiev, Lviv with Russia achieving its operation goal for ukriane despite losses and securing removal of lethal aid within weeks.
A little historic preview to rapidly escalating war with serious potential to spillover and end in a nuclear end. The US had agreed to supply lethal weapons to Ukraine in 2017. the first delivery of 210 Javelin missiles arrived in April 2018. the US had at least €600 millions of lethal weapons , anti-tank and surface-to-air missiles committed and delivered before February 24 when Russia began the operation in Ukraine. The US announced a new €350 million military aid package to Ukraine in what US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said was an "unprecedented move," bringing the total military aid from Washington to Ukraine over the past year to a total of nearly €1 billion
The UK deployed 2,000 anti-tank weapons to Kyiv along with military trainers in January 2022. In December 2021, the UK increased the amount of financial support available to Ukraine to £3.5 billion and signed a treaty on modernizing its navy.
On February 22, before Russia began its operation the Uk had applied economic sanctions as Johnson named five Russian banks wealthy and said his government would bar Russia companies from using clearing services in British pounds and U.S. dollars. It will also stop Russia selling sovereign debt in London.
Earlier on February 23, the British Foreign Office said it will provide up to $500 million in loan guarantees to Kyiv under Multilateral Development Bank lending.
The European Union alone had sent $499m of lethal weapons and gear including Luxembourg sending gear and 100 NLAW anti-tank missiles. Belgian government promised 2,000 machine guns, fuel, 3,000 additional automatic rifles and 200 anti-tank weapons
Canada is sending of military protective equipment, anti-tank weapons systems and other upgraded ammunition. 4,500 M72 rocket launchers and up to 7,500 hand grenades; $1 million towards the purchase of high-resolution modern satellite imagery; 100 Carl-Gustaf M2 anti-tank weapons system launchers and 2,000 rounds of ammunition; Finland sends 2,500 assault rifles, 150,000 rounds of ammunition, 1,500 rocket launchers and 70,000 field rations.
Denmark sends 2,700 anti-tank weapons
Norway,is sending 2,000 M72 anti-tank weapons and gear.
With thousands of civilians killed in Donetsk and Luhansk over 8 years, prosecutions and executions of ethnic Russians in Donbas, recent flow of sanctions and billions in lethal weapons and aid pouring to Ukriane since 2021, Ukrianes Zelensky threats to obtain nuclear weapons at the Munich conference before the Russian operation, no one can argue that what’s unfolding now is an unprovoked event. It’s not too late to stop flow of lethal aid and end the conflict, but there is no political will in the west to do so. Fatal errors are made by the western governments and steps fueling the world war are taken every day towards mutual destruction.
